Talk Golf Ireland, one of Ireland’s leading free golf newspaper publications, is delighted to announce a bold new chapter under the new ownership of acclaimed golf authority, Sharon Smurfit. Sharon is renowned for her pivotal role as Director of Golf at The K Club, where she oversaw a myriad of high-profile tournaments including the famed 2016 Dubai Duty Free Irish Open. She brings a wealth of expertise and passion to the publication and can truly appreciate the game from a player, fan, and commercial point of view.
Talk Golf Ireland provides both quarterly print editions and monthly digital issues, making it the go-to resource for a broad spectrum of golfers including club amateurs, touring professionals golf clubs, corporate partners, and advertisers across the country. By keeping a firm finger on the pulse of the Irish golfing community, Talk Golf Ireland covers everything from club news, course highlights and expert insights and will be distributed to clubs, golf venues and golf retail outlets around the country. Meanwhile, Sharon and the team at Talk Golf Ireland will continue to promote and grow the social media channels and impressive subscriber database.
Expressing her enthusiasm for the new venture she said, “I’m honoured to take over the reins of Talk Golf Ireland. This publication has a longstanding reputation in the Irish golfing community, and my goal is to advance that legacy by offering a powerful platform where local clubs can share their news, results, and key messages directly with their own communities—across digital, social, and print editions. We want to celebrate what makes Irish golf so special, the camaraderie, the tradition, and the incredible talent at every level of the game. My vision is to bring this publication back to its grassroots and to be even more connected with golf clubs nationwide.”
Her experience at The K Club equipped her with deep insights into the structures and operational paths of club management, and she aims to support golf clubs across Ireland through this new role. As a leading golf consultant, Sharon has already contributed significantly to the success of major events, acting as a trusted advisor to golf committees, managers, and tournament organisers including the DP World Tour. Her skill in bringing people and brands together both on and off the course underscores her commitment to strengthening Ireland’s golf community.
This acquisition heralds exciting developments for Talk Golf Ireland. The next print edition, scheduled for release in early 2025, promises a blend of engaging articles, tournament recaps, and tips from leading professionals all delivered in a concise, reader-friendly format. In addition, the brand will unveil a completely revamped website, providing a dynamic online hub for readers, clubs, and advertisers. The goal is to amplify stories from grassroots clubs, highlight emerging local talent, and foster an environment in which knowledge and inspiration can be freely exchanged.
Sharon’s vision includes cultivating an inclusive, interconnected golf community where clubs of all sizes can spotlight their milestones which could include news such as open weeks, fund raisers, charity events, a record-breaking hole-in-one, or a weekend league victory. Talk Golf Ireland will offer the digital tools, social media platforms, and print features needed to extend that message to a broader audience, reflecting Sharon’s belief that local and club news is the heartbeat of the sport.
“This is a newspaper for everyone and is a great resource for clubs and I would strongly encourage them to avail of the various low-cost options we offer to help them to promote their club and share their news,” said Sharon. “We are offering unique advertising packages where advertisers can take advantage of an annual subscription for 4 issues of the printed publication and the digital magazine.”
