Camiral Golf & Wellness is located just outside Girona, Spain and Ryanair flies directly to Girona but the flight times aren’t great. You can also fly to Barcelona which gives you more flight options. The transfer time is about an hour from Barcelona and 15 minutes from Girona so it is an ideally located resort.
Girona – I stayed in Girona the night before and I would highly recommend staying at least one night as it is a beautiful city with loads to see. Everything is within walking distance and an easy walk. There are steps to get up to the main cathedral so wear comfortable shoes.
I stayed in the Hotel Ultonia which was in a great location, 2 minutes from the main square and 5 minute walk to the bridges that bring you to the old town and it is close to all the shops. It has a fab roof top bar which has beautiful views at night time of the city and the cathedral. The rooms are clean and spacious with probably the best showers I have ever experienced in a hotel. They pride themselves on their cleanliness and it shows. I thought everything had just been refurbished but it was 8 years ago that it was done. The staff are helpful and knowledgeable about their city. To finish off our stay, we had a superb breakfast which is all buffet style.
Golf – Camiral Golf & Wellness has 2 golf courses on site; the Tour course and the Stadium course, the latter being the more challenging. You have to play both as they are very different. The Tour is more open whilst the Stadium has narrower fairways and more trees!! I walked the tour course and is it hilly on the front 9 but is much flatter on the back. If for any reason, the Caddymaster says that buggies are on cart path only, walk the course as it was very difficult for my playing partners going from the buggy to the fairway in the heat.
They offer rental clubs, electric trolleys and have plenty of buggies on site but I would recommend pre-booking in the peak season.
When you arrive in the hotel, your clubs will be transferred to the clubhouse and your travel bag held by the concierge. The caddymasters are super efficient and will have your bags ready for your tee time. If you don’t want to bring your clubs with you, the rental sets are top of the range.
The Golf Hub has trackman screens but there is a cost to this and their practice range has plenty of golf balls and bays to use which is complimentary on the day of play. There is also indoor practice facilities available too if the weather is bad.
Both courses are immaculate and are well maintained. I enjoyed both courses but preferred the Tour course as it suited my golf better.
The Clubhouse – There is a huge pro shop and it is fully stocked with lots of brands which tops can range from €59 to €100+ – there is a good selection of shoes, gloves, golf balls and accessories which are very reasonably priced.
The clubhouse food was very good and plenty of options from tapas, burgers, sandwiches and full meals to choose from. The staff are very friendly, however it can be a little slow to order food & drinks but when ordered, it all arrived in good time.
Camiral has their own vineyard on site and I think we drank their rose vineyard dry as they ran out of it. The white, red & Rose are all excellent and very reasonably priced.
The Hotel – when you are choosing your room, pick one with balcony as it overlooks the pool. The other rooms overlook the front of the hotel but all the rooms are the exact same size (bar the suites). They are beautifully decorated and very clean.
There is a superb bar downstairs on the lower level and they also serve food & snacks there. This turned out to be our meet & greet place for our group.
